The story of my trip around the world to train, teach and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other grappling arts.

Can’t decide on travel pace

I am sitting outside Xtreme Couture, trying to decide on where to go next week. I have been traveling at a very high pace since New York, visiting more than ten places in the last two weeks. It has been really fun and interesting, but I don’t know if I should keep going like this or slow down a little bit.

I have the option of getting a cheap ticket directly to Panama on Monday. One of my options is to spend the next month only in Panama, Colombia, Paraguay and Brazil. But I could also squeeze in a couple of more destinations, such as San Diego, Mexicali, Ciudad Obregon and Mexico city. It would take some time from my visit to Brazil and also demand a lot more from me in planning and finding the right tickets. Not to mention the extra costs of going to these many places.

Suggestions?

Quality over quantity is my advice. Best to enjoy one place in depth and comfortably than to zip through several. I have trained and hung out in Brazil several times and take my word for it you will be glad you are rested when you land there. So much to do and see.

Definitely slow it down, if it were me I’d honestly just go straight to Brazil after the Mundials.

Although a lot of people might be tired from worlds, I’m sure you can make some nice socal friends who would be willing to drive down and tour some of the many famous schools in San Diego with you. Wouldn’t be particularly tiring either (the traveling at least) so you can rest up before continuing on more plane flights. Hell I would volunteer my services myself if I weren’t a lowly white belt.

No way I am going to spend a month in one place, I have loved to stay each place for a few days :D

Spencer, white belts are people too you know :) I think I will get out of the U.S. though, even though San Diego is so close. I need adventure and danger ;)

I would say San Diego and Brazil should def. be on the list. San Diego has some amazing schools and also great surfing. I don’t know if I woul personally cut into my Brazil time by going to to Panama or Mexico, but for San Diego I def. would.

I would personally prefer a much slower pace, I almost get exhausted just from reading about your travelling. And a month for Panama, Colombia, Paraguay and Brazil is not that slow, after all Brazil alone is one huge and diverse country where it would be possible to travel around for a long time without getting bored.

What abut Peru are you not going there? That is definitely a country I would try to visit.
