The story of my trip around the world to train, teach and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other grappling arts.

DSLR equipment, what to bring?

Still haven’t decided on what I should bring of my DSLR equipment. I wish I had room for all of it so I won’t miss out on any photo opportunities, but I know that is not realistic.

I think I’ll go for the 50mm f/1.8 for action/competition/training shots, 8mm fisheye for scenery and either my high quality 20-35mm or cheap 18-55mm. I’ll see what I can find room for in the bag…

    That’s a hard one.
With the 50mm and the 8mm i think your going to find yourself wanting alot more zoom during your travels. I know i do.
If the 18-55mm is the kit lens then i wouldnt bother taking it.
Take you 20-35mm or something with zoom over 50mm since you already have your 50mm 1.8

    I’ve been traveling with a 50mm 1.8, 17-50mm 2.8 and a 11-16mm 2.8 for wides.
I really really wish i had something with more zoom now.

Yeah I could use some more zoom, but the only one I have at the moment is the 18-55 kit lens and probably not going to invest in anything new at this moment.

Go for the 20-35 if it’s a 2.8 because you already have the 50mm 1.8
and the kit lens 18-55 will have an f-stop of 5.6 at the 55mm end which will be crap in dark situations.
    just my 2 cents
