The story of my trip around the world to train, teach and compete in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and other grappling arts.

About my trip

If I don’t do it, it will be a disgrace towards all those, who can’t.

I always strive to do something cool with my life. I only have one life and one chance to get something out of it, so I always try and create opportunities for good experiences for myself, rather than just sit back and wait for them to magically present themselves to me (hint: they never do). So this is one of those projects, where I try to get the best out of my time in this life. I don’t believe in an afterlife, so I am pretty busy.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is – besides all-you-can-eat buffets and natural disasters – one of my biggest interests in life. I think it is a great way to get in shape, learn about your self, get good experiences and socialize. it is also a great base for traveling and meeting new people. I have traveled a lot to train, and where ever I go, I can always walk into some BJJ gym and immediate meet people who are easy to connect and hang out with. I guess it is shared interest combined with instantly broken down physical barriers (as in we get each others asses in the face right away, and then that is kind of out of the way).

Starting February 21st 2011, I will be traveling around the world to train and compete in various forms of grappling. My time frame is something around 5 months, going all the way around the globe and preferably ending in Brasil with some good training and competition there. You can check out my itinerary here.

I will very much be relying on people inviting me to wherever they train, so hopefully some of you out there can give me some good recommendations. I am looking to train, teach and compete wherever in the world I can. I have no limitations for this trip really, other than I am traveling on a budget, so I need to find cheap places to stay, like hostels, couches or similar. I am not picky and can sleep almost anywhere, so if you live near by a good place to train and have room for me for a while, please let me know!

If you train somewhere and would like me to come by and teach a bit, I will do that gladly as well. I am not asking for money, but some help with transportation, accommodation and food would be appreciated. I am also interested in participating in any competition I can find, so if there is anything cool going on near you, let me know where and when it is, and I will see if I can make it there. I am interested in competing in BJJ, submission wrestling, wrestling, Judo etc. – just looking to gather experience along the way on my trip.

If you have any questions, suggestions, etc. for me, feel free to shoot me an email. You can also check out my page about how you can help me out on my trip :)
